FAM Student Portal Project

The Financial Aid Management (FAM) application from Regent provides an additional add-on feature of a self-service interface or portal. The FAM Student Portal allows colleges to communicate with financial aid applicants through the web. A link can be added to a college’s financial aid web page allowing students to log in to the college’s FAM Student Portal. The login link directs students to a college-specific URL provided by the SBCTC-ITD. The portal exists in the same production environment that the current FAM application resides in but uses a URL that is specifically designed for external portal traffic.

The portal enables students to view or perform the following by award year:

  • View a summary of their financial aid information.
  • Specify a desired lender for future loan requests.
  • View loan history information (if applicable).
  • View and (optionally) accept or reject their awards.
  • Read comments from the Financial Aid Office for tailored portal communication.
  • View a list of information needed to complete the application process.
  • Download forms posted by the Financial Aid Office (optional).
  • Access standard forms hosted on the Financial Aid Office web site.
  • Upload scanned or electronically completed documents (optional; requires anti-virus software on staff PCs).

Students access the portal using their PIN stored in the financial aid system. A nightly process is run to maintain the financial aid PINs, and an optional batch process synchronizes with the students' SMS PINs. An additional batch job generates a report of student activity on the portal for financial aid staff.
