Common Course Numbering
Welcome to the common course numbering Web page
The common course numbering project's purpose is to make course transfer* between and among the 34 community and technical colleges as easy as possible for students, advisors and receiving institutions.
The project to commonly number community and technical college courses was directed by the presidents of the Washington community and technical colleges with leadership from the Washington State Instruction and Student Services commissions and support from the State Board for Community and Technical College's staff. The project's scope was limited to academic transfer courses as defined by the Intercollege Relations Council (ICRC) agreement (Appendix B of the ICRC Handbook, pages 22-25).
Scope of Common Course Numbering Project
The Common Course list includes all courses included in the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA), which are over 100-level. Currently, Math 098, is not a commonly numbered course. This does include several courses which count toward professional/technical degree, such as Accounting and Criminal Justice. The scope does not include developmental education, professional/technical programs, or Basic Skills (ABE,GED, ESL or High School Completion). Changes will be made to the Dept/Div abbreviation, the course number, and the title. Each college may use the “:” colon after the title and use the remaining 25 characters as a part of the title. The current Common Course database is available in the Current Activities section below.

* In 2005-06, the CTC system enrolled 326,215 students (unduplicated headcount). Of that number, 60,881 or 19 percent were students who had previously enrolled at a different college (previously enrolled includes any year/quarter from 2000 forward).
