Don Piercy

Governor Gregoire appoints Don Piercy as new Skagit Valley College trustee

Don Piercy, of Coupeville, was appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire to the Skagit Valley College board of trustees. He replaced Mel Takehara who recently completed five years of service as a board member.

Piercy most recently held the position of senior vice president and director of marketing for Pacific Northwest Bank. In addition, he has worked extensively in the banking and communications industries during his 40-year career, holding executive positions with corporations in Seattle, San Francisco and New York City.     

Piercy received a Bachelor of Science in marketing management from Syracuse University and a Master of Business Administration in marketing management from Pace University in New York. He also is an honors graduate with the National School of Savings Banking, National Association of Mutual Savings Banks, and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School. In 2003, he earned the status of certified financial marketing professional from the American Bankers Association. He serves on the board of numerous other community organizations including Island County Economic Development Council, Whidbey General Hospital Foundation, and Central Whidbey Lions.


Moss appointed to Clover Park Technical College board of trustees

Mary MossClover Park Technical College (CPTC) Board of Trustees announced Mary Moss as its newest member. Moss was appointed by Gov. Gregoire effective November 2006.

Moss, who is a long-time resident of Lakewood, has presided as president of the CPTC Foundation board of directors for two years. During her term, Moss worked with foundation and community leaders to develop enhanced scholarship opportunities and increase endowments for students.

Moss currently works as the community relations manager for Harborstone Credit Union in Lakewood.


Deborah Martin joins Cascadia Community College as executive director of human resources and payroll

Deborah MartinCascadia Community College announced the appointment of Deborah Martin as executive director of human resources and payroll.

For the past four years, Martin has served as in-house counsel and director of human resources at Valley General Hospital in Monroe.

Prior to working in human resources, Martin was in private practice focusing on construction and labor law. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a juris doctorate from Seton Hall University Law School.


New appointment at Bates Technical College (see picture)

Sunny BurnsBates Technical College recently appointed Dr. Sara “Sunny” Burns as their new vice president of instruction.

Burns brings to Bates many years of experience in Washington’s community and technical college system. She began her academic career as a faculty counselor and instructor for a veterans’ study program.

For the past seven years, Burns served as vice president for learning and student services at Pierce College, Fort Steilacoom in Lakewood.

Burns holds a doctor of philosophy in educational leadership from Gonzaga University, as well as a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Washington University.
