Community and technical college board to review operating budget, tuition rates and student success data

OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on March14 and 15 to discuss the 2007-09 operating budget, tuition rates, data used to track student success and bills being considered by the Legislature.

The Board will hear remarks from Ann Daley, the executive director of the Higher Education Coordinating Board, on Thursday.

“The State Board is discussing the current operating budget to provide background for making allocation decisions for the state’s 2007-09 operating budget later this spring,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said.

The work session on March 14 will include discussion about the ways the State Board can allocate funds to further its goals, the relationship between state funding and tuition, and the data that can be collected to track the system’s progress toward meeting its goals.  State Board staff members will provide information about an Edmonds Community College student housing project.

During the regular meeting on March 15, the State Board will consider approving a new student housing project at Edmonds CC and the use of local funds to build a new facility for international programs at Green River Community College. The Board will also consider principles for the awarding of adult basic education grants and principles for setting tuition for the four applied bachelor’s degree programs. The board will discuss bills being considered by the Legislature and get an update on the activities of three of the State Board task forces.
