Community and technical college board focuses on student feedback and future budgets

OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on January 31 in Olympia to hear the results of a statewide student survey and start the process of identifying priorities for the 2009-11 biennial budget.

“The Board conducted a comprehensive survey to gather feedback from students on their perceptions and experiences with the two-year colleges. The information gathered will help inform future decisions for the good of students,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said.

The Board will also consider strategic priorities for next biennium’s operating and capital budget requests, as well as 2009 operating budget allocations and tuition rates.

The Board will hear reports from the technology transformation taskforce and discuss fall enrollment trends. The Board will consider accepting the results of a study about community and technical college early learning programs.

Approval of a property acquisition adjacent to Olympic College will be considered, in addition to adding nine investment choices to the State Board-sponsored retirement savings plan.

The Board will go into executive session to discuss property acquisition and potential litigation.

The meeting is scheduled on January 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All meetings will take place at the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, 1300 Quince St. SE, Olympia in the Cascade Conference Room. Some of the Board members and the executive director will join for dinner on January 30 at 6 p.m. at Mercato Ristorante, 111 Market St. NE, Olympia. No official business will occur. All meetings are open to the public, except the executive session.
