Purpose
The Committee on Assessment Instruments will create and maintain a central "warehouse" of survey instruments being used to assess education-related activities in higher education that would be of interest and/or use to the WARP membership. This information will be posted on the WARP web site hosted by the SBCTC.Work Plan 2001-02
During this year, the Committee on Assessment Instruments will identify and/or solicit from the WARP membership assessment instruments commonly used in research and planning.
1. Locally-developed surveys. WARP members will be asked to submit locally-developed surveys to the committee chair, including a brief summary regarding when/how the instrument has been used, whether the results are available for comparison, and the college contact person. It would also be advantageous to track the names of the colleges that have used the instrument, what date(s) the instrument was administered, and if results are available to the rest of the group for comparison purposes.
The categories for survey instruments might include:
Submissions by the colleges would refine/redefine the categories.
2. Web sites for national surveys. The following are examples of web sites in the United States and Canada where examples of survey instruments can be found. Possible candidates include:
Measuring Quality. This ACE/AIR jointly sponsored web site includes a sophisticated search function to access survey instruments by instrument category, type of administration, type of institution, etc. http://data.imir.iupui.edu/survey2/firstpage.asp
NCRP. The organization's link includes a survey bank by college. As of this writing, however, the survey bank was last updated in 1999. http://www.nmsu.edu/~NCRP/
Centre for Educational Information. CIESS is an independent organization that provides research and technology services to improve the performance of the British Columbia education system. The organization's Educational Outcomes web site includes the assessment instruments used and reports. http://www.ceiss.org/products_services/edoutcomes/index.asp
University of Maryland College Park. UMCP has a great list of assessment instruments related to campus climate. http://www.diversityweb.org/Leadersguide/DREI/cc.html
Student Affairs-Related Outcomes Instruments Summary Information. An extensive listing of assessment instruments related to students' career, inventories of student's moral, intellectual and emotional development, involvement in college life, and satisfaction with their college experience. Although this listing was last updated in 1994, the descriptive information may still be useful. http://isu.indstate.edu/wbarratt/dragon/ix/sa-indx.htm
The Committee on Assessment Instruments will review the materials and submit their recommendations to the WARP Executive Committee who will responsible for ensuring that materials are posted on the WARP web site. The Committee would also periodically review the web site for currency and accuracy, making recommendations to the Executive Committee regarding additions and deletions as appropriate.
