Community and technical college board to begin developing operating budget request
OLYMPIA, Wash. — The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will convene its regular business meeting on Thursday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. On the agenda is the development of the 2019-21 operating budget which the college system will submit to be part of the governor’s budget request to the Washington state Legislature for the 2017 legislative session.
Board members will be asked to identify the community and technical college system’s policy priorities that will shape the operating budget request. The request is due to the state’s Office of Financial Management in September. Recommended policy priorities include:
- Increasing academic, completion and career planning efforts
- Investing in learning and teaching
- Investing in campus and student health and safety
The policy recommendations equal a total additional investment of $141 million, or about 10 percent of the college system’s total budget, over the next two years. This would represent a funding increase of $750 per student.
The board is also set to take action on budget awards and allocations for federal Basic Education for Adults programs and funding awards for workforce education programs.
Prior to its regular business meeting, the board will hold a study session on Wednesday, June 22 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Board members will hear an update on the implantation of system-wide software, ctcLink.
The study session and business meeting will be held at the Van Tassell Center at Wentachee Valley College, 1300 Fifth Street in Wentachee. The State Board’s agenda and background materials are posted at the State Board’s website.
