State Board to vote on 2022 community, technical college system legislative priorities
OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet for its regular business meeting Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., during which the board is expected to vote to approve the college system's 2022 legislative priorities. The agenda, which includes operating and capital requests for the supplemental budget year, asks the Legislature to include enrollment in Basic Education for Adults programs in Washington State Caseload Forecast Council projections.
The State Board's operating budget request, submitted to the Office of Financial Management in September, asks the Legislature to support:
- Cyber security education
- Financial aid outreach
- Expand services for students experiencing homelessness
- Integrate climate solutions into curriculum and practice
- Refugee education
Board members will also consider adding an additional $13 million to its $293 million supplemental capital budget request for asbestos contamination discovered during building renovations at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held remotely by Zoom. The meeting agenda and background materials are posted on the State Board's website.
