About the Mutual Research Transcript Exchange
The Mutual Research Transcript Exchange (MRTE+) data system is a database of student unit records (courses, degree completions, demographics, transfers) across Washington’s public higher education system. College and university participation is voluntary.
MRTE+ data sources
- SBCTC Data Warehouse for community and technical college enrollments from 2004-2005 to current.
- Public Centralized Higher Education Enrollment System (PCHEES) for four-year college and university enrollment records from 2007-2008 to current.
Student unit records
A unique encrypted “identifier" is assigned to each student enrolled in Washington’s public higher education system to create a "unit record" in the database. One unit record represents one student.
De-identification deletes or masks personal identifiers — such as name and social security number, date of birth and zip code — to disconnect a person's identity with personal information.
The identifier allows researchers to track a student unit record over time across the community and technical colleges and the baccalaureate colleges and universities.
Institutional researchers at participating institutions are the primary users of MRTE+. Each user signs a Notice of Nondisclosure form before receiving a username and password.
Once granted access, install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client and an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection established to allow linking to the MRTE+ server.
To request access, contact Darby Kaikkonen at email@example.com.
