Quality Matters Program

What is Quality Matters?

Quality Matters (QM) is a collaborative and collegial quality assurance program centered on the idea of continuous course improvement. The program includes:

  • Professional development workshops
  • Research-based course review rubric
  • A faculty-centered peer review process designed to support, improve, and certify the quality of online and blended learning courses

SBCTC eLearning & Open Education funds an annual system level subscription to Quality Matters (QM) for all 34 Washington community and technical colleges.  Selected QM training and certification for community and technical college faculty and staff is also funded annually.

QM training is open to community and technical college faculty, administrators and staff statewide. While geared toward online and blended course design, even instructors who teach primarily face-to-face (f2f) or web-enhanced courses will benefit from taking the introductory Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) course. Most participants find the QM rubric to be an excellent course design checklist.

National QM Workshops

SBCTC will pay the tuition (a value of $150-$300) for first-time WA-CTC participants registered in the nationally facilitated Quality Matters workshops listed below.  The national workshops are taught by certified QM facilitators from across the U.S. and participants interact with peers throughout the country.

SBCTC QM Workshops

SBCTC eLearning & Open Education will also pay the tuition (a value of $150-$200) for first-time WA-CTC participants registered in the system facilitated Quality Matters workshops listed below.  System workshops are taught by QM certified facilitators from our own colleges and participants interact with peers from across Washington state.

 

The QM sign-up process varies slightly by campus.  Please read the sign-up information below and contact your campus eLearning office for additional campus specific directions.

Please do not register yourself on the Quality Matters website.  Only registrations submitted through your eLearning office and SBCTC eLearning & Open Education will be processed and paid.  Any QM registrations completed outside of the SBCTC sign-up process are the responsibility of the participant.  

tuition is invoiced as soon as the workshop begins.  All cancellations must be processed before the workshop start date.

National QM Workshops

To find nationally facilitated QM workshop dates, please check QM’s professional development calendar.  Reminder, do not register yourself on the Quality Matters website.

To sign up, you will need to send the workshop title and start/end dates to your eLearning office along with your name, title, teaching subject, and contact information or fill-out SBCTC’s online sign-up form if directed to do so by your eLearning office.

SBCTC System Workshops

To find system facilitated QM workshop dates, please check your college email for announcements, the ATL eList, the ATL blog, the  eLearning PD Calendar, or the eLearning Council training calendar.  System facilitated IYOC and APPQMR offerings are alternated monthly.  In months of high demand, additional sections may be opened.  Please note that due to fiscal year-end restrictions, system facilitated workshops are typically not offered during the month of June.

To sign-up for a System facilitated workshop, please fill-out the  SBCTC ‘System Facilitated’ workshop sign-up form.  System workshop sign-ups do not require permission from your campus eLearning office.

Please note that due to the substantial costs savings, participants will be placed into system facilitated APPQMR workshops before being placed in nationally facilitated workshops.  And, please also note that the IYOC can only be taken as a system facilitated workshop.
