Faculty play a lead role in the success of our students.
Faculty members comprise 53 percent of employees in Washington state's 34 community and technical colleges (2014-15). The office of Assessment, Teaching, and Learning (ATL) offers a wide range of events designed to foster faculty success as they create significant learning experiences for students.
The statewide Assessment, Teaching and Learning Community (ATLC) includes educators, administrators, and institutional researchers — representing both two-year and four-year institutions in Washington — who provide campus leadership to strengthen teaching and learning through assessment and faculty development.
The 2018 ATL Conference conference, “Centering Student Learning: Connecting Completions, Equity and Guided Pathways,” will be held May 2 – 4, 2018, in Vancouver, Wash.
Pre-conference workshops, plenary sessions, and concurrent sessions will focus on the mindsets and practices that support faculty in creating equitable environments where all students learn deeply. Practitioners will have opportunities to “sensemake,” exploring the practical and tangible connections between completions, equity and Guided Pathways and their direct application in the daily work of teaching at the classroom level.
The annual New Faculty Institute provides faculty who are new to a position, an institution, or the system opportunity to collaboratively explore the complexities of navigating a professional identity as a faculty member at a two-year college and cultivating a reflective teaching practice.
Offered three times a year, the Assessment, Teaching and Learning Retreats retreats serve faculty, staff and administrators tasked with developing and implementing professional development programs and learning outcomes assessment to promote and encourage student success.
Placement 360 offers cross-functional campus teams a yearlong mentorship opportunity to implement multiple measures on a broad scale to effectively, efficiently and equitably place students. This partnership with expert practitioners from our community and technical college system is funded by College Spark.
The Second Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning with an Equity Mindset will be held Aug. 6-10, 2018 at Rainbow Lodge in North Bend, Wash.
During this intensive summer institute — co-presented with Washington Center for Improving Undergraduate Education and the Masters in Teaching Program at The Evergreen State College — participants will design a one-year project to infuse the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) design principles with Richard Milner’s Opportunity Gap Framework.
The third annual Using Evidence for Improvement: Teaching and Learning National Institute will be held July 29 - Aug. 1, 2018 at The Evergreen State College. Apply by March 1, 2018 for a $25 discount on each registration.
Each five- to eight-member campus team will develop a two-year, large-scale change initiative action plan to examine, improve and support the quality of student experiences in the classroom and other learning contexts.
