SCC is a leading provider of nursing and allied health care professionals in our community and provides highly skilled manufacturing, technology, and career training programs. SCC also has one of the largest apprenticeship programs in the state. The college's strong transfer programs equip graduates for success as they transfer to four-year colleges. Adult education programs like High School+ and English as a Second Language are also a major part of the college's offerings.

Meet Shawna Donaldson

Shawna Donaldson had a life-changing experience when, at 47 years old, she received a diagnosis of epilepsy. She abruptly found herself “disabled and suddenly dependent on others for survival...”. In the wake of this life altering diagnosis, she refused to give up and let epilepsy take over her life. Ms. Donaldson returned to school at 49, setting out to prove any doubters wrong. She enrolled at Spokane Community College and attends classes at the Colville Center. In doing so, she effectively declared war on any obstacle that would keep her from accomplishing her goals.

Legislative Priority: Expand Opportunity for Students and Employers

Fully funding our budget requests will have real returns for students like Shawna Donaldson and for the communities and employers in our area. Students will learn from competitively-paid experts who choose to work at Spokane Community College rather than pursue higher paying positions with private employers or K-12 schools. Our students will train for careers in robust workforce programs, with modern equipment and learning spaces that mirror their future work environments. We will be able to expand technology to bring a college education to more people in more ways, which is especially important for working adults. And, all our students will benefit from an inclusive environment where they are valued, supported and equipped to reach their goals.

Spokane Community College will also receive funding to operate and maintain existing facilities, build its Apprenticeship Center, and design and build its Allied Health building.
