SBCTC AI Resource Center

Overview

The SBCTC AI Resource Center serves as a central hub for artificial intelligence projects and initiatives led or supported by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

The center documents this work as it develops, providing project overviews, materials, and findings for college faculty and staff, agency personnel, policymakers, and members of the public interested in how AI is being approached within Washington's community and technical college system.

The center's initial focus is Elevate WA, a project to integrate AI into computer science curriculum at participating colleges. Additional projects and resources will be added as they become available.

Elevate WA

Elevate WA is a statewide initiative that helps Washington’s community and technical colleges explore, implement, and scale responsible uses of artificial intelligence in teaching, learning, student support, and college operations.

Through grants, professional development, communities of practice, and hands-on project work, participating colleges are developing innovative AI solutions that enhance student success, improve workforce readiness, and expand equitable access to emerging technologies across the state.

Events

This 90-minute webinar is designed for community and technical college faculty seeking both a practical introduction to Generative AI and Microsoft Copilot and strategies for integrating these tools into teaching and learning. Participants will explore Generative AI fundamentals, responsible AI use, effective prompting techniques, and real-world applications in education, with a focus on lesson planning, curriculum design, classroom practice, discipline-specific examples, and instructional use cases.

This 90-minute webinar is designed for community and technical college staff seeking both a practical introduction to Generative AI and Microsoft Copilot and strategies for applying these tools in workplace operations. Through hands-on examples and administrative use cases, participants will learn how AI can streamline workflows, improve efficiency, support decision-making, and enhance daily work across departments while developing the skills needed to direct AI effectively and evaluate AI-generated outputs.

In this interactive 90-minute workshop, community and technical college educators will learn how Microsoft Copilot Chat agents can support teaching and administrative workflows. Participants will explore how agents differ from traditional prompting, when an agent is the right solution, and how to design an agent’s purpose, instructions, knowledge sources, tone, and guardrails using Agent Builder in Microsoft Copilot Chat. Participants will leave with a functioning AI agent and a framework for creating additional agents that can save time, increase consistency, and support day-to-day work.

Suggested prerequisite: Complete the Generative AI and Microsoft Copilot for Community College Faculty training, or view the recording prior to attending this workshop: 101 + 102 Gen AI for CC Faculty Recording.mp4.

This workshop assumes familiarity with Generative AI fundamentals, responsible AI use, effective prompting strategies, and core Microsoft Copilot Chat features.

Our first virtual Community of Practice convening will take place on October 6. This session is an opportunity for our community to learn together, ask questions, exchange ideas, and share insights. As a reminder, participation in Community of Practice convenings is a required component of the Microsoft Elevate Washington Community and Technical College AI Integration Grant program, and we encourage strong engagement from each team.
