Committee work wraps up and floor action begins as Legislature enters its final stretch

With just over three weeks to go in the regular session, negotiators from the House and Senate are hard at work hammering out details of the operating, capital and transportation budgets. The Legislature reached its fifth cutoff Tuesday when bills with fiscal implications needed to be voted out of fiscal committees in order to continue in the legislative process. >>

All about the budget this week as Legislature passes another cutoff

This week marked a major milestone in the 2019 legislative session. Both chambers have now passed their operating budgets — the House on March 29 and the Senate on April 4. The two chambers will soon begin the conference committee process to hammer out the differences between the two budgets. Wednesday was the deadline for bills from the opposite chamber to be voted out of policy committees in order to continue in the legislative process. >>

House operating budget and higher education funding plan released, along with House and Senate capital budget proposals

The House released its version of the operating and capital budgets Monday, hearing the operating budget Monday and the capital budget Tuesday. The Senate introduced its version of the capital budget Wednesday with a hearing that afternoon. Senators also released their operating budget at noon today. With analysis still in progress and a hearing scheduled for Monday's Senate Ways and Means Committee, that proposal will be covered in next week's Legislative News. >>
