Viewpoint: Effective internal communication strengthens community
... Renton Technical College (RTC) in Renton, Washington, just outside of Seattle, developed a solid internal communications
strategy to address the problem, which became even more critical as the college moved
through constant change during the pandemic. Email became the essential source of
information, and the college strived to ensure everyone knew what was happening by
using effective messaging.

Big Bend Community College to host vaccination clinic in June and July
Big Bend Community College nursing program will be working alongside Grant County Health District to offer two
Moderna vaccination clinics on campus. ... Those that attend aren’t required to have
health insurance nor will not be asked to prove residency or immigration status in
order to receive a vaccine. “We like to think that our students and their families
feel Big Bend is a safe environment regardless of immigration status or whether or
not they have an ID,” said Matthew Killebrew, communications director.

Organizations partner to create shared online course platform to improve completion rates

or continuing a post-secondary degree. The list goes on. A new initiative by the League
for Innovation in the Community College is looking to improve completion rates at
two-year colleges through a shared online course platform.

Bridging the workforce training gap at community colleges
A bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate last week would pump federal funding into
community college work-based learning programs, helping to provide students with more
opportunities to further their education and the support they need to be successful.
Senators Tim Kaine, a Democrat from Virginia, and Todd Young, a Republican from Indiana,

White House kicks off college vaccine challenge
The Biden administration has launched an initiative called the COVID-19 College Challenge
for colleges and universities to encourage their students, faculty and staff to get
vaccinated against the coronavirus. Any college or university is able to sign up for
the challenge and have their institution added to the White House's list of challenge
participants, which currently includes several hundred colleges across 46 states and
Washington, D.C.
