Next Skagit Valley College president announced
The Skagit Valley College Board of Trustees on Tuesday night selected the college’s next president. The board
chose Christopher Villa in a unanimous vote, according to a news release from the
college. ... “He brings a wealth of experience and commitment to the community college
mission,” Board of Trustees Chair Flora Perez-Lucatero said in the release. “We are
looking forward to his leadership in continuing the vision for the college.”

Pierce College students selected for 2022 All-Washington Academic Team
In recognition of their high academic achievements, five Pierce College students were recently named to the All-Washington Academic Team. Phi Theta Kappa,
the international honor society for two-year colleges, introduced the All-USA Academic
Team to honor students for their scholastic achievement and community and college
service.

Omak resident joins Wenatchee Valley College board of trustees
Wenatchee Valley College has a new member on its board of trustees. She’s Phylicia Hancock Lewis of Omak,
appointed to a five-year term last month by Gov. Jay Inslee. The Omak native was a
nurse practitioner with Confluence Health for 25 years until her retirement last December,
and remains on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Nursing.

County and EvCC have deal to keep preschool open next year
After months of uncertainty, Everett Community College confirmed an award-winning preschool will stay open next year. The college and Snohomish
County announced Tuesday they have an agreement to fund the Early Learning Center
through next year. The preschool has served families with low incomes for decades.

Tacoma Community College (TCC) will return to an in-person, on-campus Commencement celebration this June. The college
will host two in-person Commencement ceremonies in the Building 20 Gym. ... As in
previous years, which ceremony a student attends will be based on the program they

TCC: Masks encouraged for spring quarter, effective March 28
Tacoma Community College (TCC) President Ivan L. Harrell II, Ph.D., announced today in an email to the campus community
that masks will be encouraged, but not required, in most TCC spaces for spring quarter.
Masks are currently required indoors on campus. That requirement will be lifted for
the first day of spring quarter, March 28.

U.S. Secretary of Education applauds Pell Grant increase
U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona praised the recent passage of President
Joe Biden's fiscal year 2022 budget. The package includes a $400 increase in the Pell
