New website simplifies user-experience with open educational resources

The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) today announced its launch of OPEN Attribution Builder. The application helps Open Educational Resources (OER) users properly cite their sources, making the OER more user-friendly. The goal behind OER is to make high quality materials easily available to students and instructors at a much lower cost than that of published textbooks and other classroom materials. >>

Centers of Excellence celebrate 10th year of innovative workforce development for Washington

The Centers of Excellence announced today that 2014 marks the 10th year anniversary of their founding. Ten years ago, the Centers of Excellence were established by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, and in 2009, they were codified by the state Legislature. The centers are flagship institutions that build and sustain Washington’s competitive advantage through statewide leadership. Each center focuses on a targeted industry that drives the state’s economy and is built upon a reputation for fast, flexible and responsive workforce development to support education and training programs. >>

Community and technical college board to take action on 2015 legislative agenda

The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will convene its regular business meeting Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 1 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in Centralia. Board members will take action on the State Board’s 2015 legislative agenda. The agenda requests an additional $176 million which would go to preparing students for college and careers through Basic Education for Adults programs, keeping students on track toward degrees and certificates, closing skill gaps and filling jobs in STEM and the workforce, and providing salary increases to help retain high-quality college faculty and staff members. >>

Community and technical college board to distribute performance funding at Oct. 30 business meeting

The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will convene its regular business meeting in Tacoma Thursday, Oct. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Board members will take action on a resolution to award a total of $4.7 million in performance funding to Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges for student progress in the 2013-14 school year. >>
