College board set to vote on changes to Student Achievement Initiative

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges at its Wednesday, Sept. 13 business meeting is set to vote on proposed changes to the college system's student achievement funding model. The Student Achievement Initiative awards funding to colleges based on the number of their students who reach benchmarks shown to increase success in college. The changes were recommended as part of the program's regularly scheduled review process.

Also on the agenda is a review of the 2017-19 operating budget passed June 30 by the State Legislature, an update on the capital budget impasse, and action on the system's 2018 supplemental operating budget request to the Legislature. The State Board will also discuss 2018 legislative agenda priorities.

Wednesday's business meeting is open to the public.

Prior to the business meeting, the State Board will hold its annual retreat Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12. Board members will discuss issues affecting the community and technical college system, including student completion, equity and diversity, enrollment and systemwide advocacy.
