Community and technical college board to vote on 2020 college system legislative priorities
OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet for its regular business meeting Thursday, Dec. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Board members are anticipated to give final approval to the community and technical college system's 2020 legislative agenda, which focuses on its supplemental capital budget request. The $273 million request would fund 25 major projects at 23 colleges, including funds for six construction projects.
The college system will also focus its 2020 efforts on policy requests to the Legislature:
- Removing school districts' ability to withhold grades and transcripts of students from colleges due to unpaid fines or fees
- Extending the Customized Training Program B&O tax credit until 2026 and continuing to monitor the program on a regular basis
- Requiring community and technical colleges to highlight courses using low-cost materials — those $50 and less — to be highlighted in the college's online course catalog
The State Board will also meet Wednesday, Dec. 4 to hear an update of the 2021-23 operating budget development process and enrollment trends.
The study session and business meeting will be held in the Performance Lounge at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, 9401 Farwest Dr. SW in Lakewood. The meeting agenda and background materials are posted on the State Board website.
