Operating, capital budget proposals on upcoming State Board agenda

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will hold its regular business meeting on Thursday, March 28. The board will hear an update of how the operating and capital budget proposals, which were released Monday, could affect the community and technical college system.

Also on the agenda is an update of Guided Pathways, a research-based approach to student services and instruction that simplifies choices for students, and the Student Achievement Initiative, the college system's performance-based funding model. These two efforts help students earn college credit, complete a certificate or degree and close equity gaps, all State Board priority focus areas.

Prior to the business meeting, the State Board will hold a study session in which board members will hear Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal's vision for high school completion and dual enrollment programs like Running Start and College in the High School. The board will also discuss diversity and equity, hear proposals for student housing at Seattle Central College and North Seattle College, and discuss best employment practices for part-time faculty.

The study session and business meeting will be held at the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges office, Cascade conference room, 1300 Quince Street SE in Olympia. The meeting agenda and background materials are posted at the State Board website.
