Data Model Information

Updated Database Design

The Updated Database Design workbook was initially created as a map from the HP 3000 database to the SQL database for Re-hosting. The workbook provides details on the HP 3000 data and merges the Image Schema information with the Data Dictionary information.

Turbo Image Database Diagrams

Note: There are two items in these diagrams that are not represented exactly the same as the way they exist in the Turbo Image database. First, the data values found in these diagrams reflect the data type that a field value would convert to in a relational database (for example, SQL Server), not the data type that exists in the Turbo Image database. Second, a dash (-) is used as the word separator in Turbo Image, these diagrams use an underscore (_).

Turbo Image Database Information

The TurboImage database is a hierarchical database. It provides for one level of relationship (master to detail). TurboImage data sets (tables) have three designated types with unique characteristics.

The last letter of the data set name indicates the data set type:

  • A - Automatic Master:
An automatic master dataset contains only one data item, the key item. Turbo Image uses it for efficient record retrieval. It is not needed for anything else. Example: YRQ-A (Year/Quarter Automatic Master)
  • M - Master:
A master dataset is designed to store one-of-a-kind information. It can have a key item and can contain other data items. It can be associated with detail datasets. Example: STU-YRQ-M (Student Year/Quarter Master)
  • D - Detail:
A detail dataset is designed to store duplicate information. It can have search items and data items. Some elements in a detail set can be associated with a master set. Example: STU-D (Student Detail)
