BEdA Handbook
Positive Mental Health

Description of program track

During this time of COVID, we have suffered many losses; death, employment, relationships, etc. However, this loss does not stop at the doors of our institutions, offices, and classrooms. In this conference track, we turn our attention to self-care and community care that extends beyond just the student but also to the colleague and community. When you work in a role that involves supporting other people, stress and pressure can affect service if left unchecked.

The SBCTC Education Division is committed to students' welfare; this extends to the faculty, staff, and administrators that serve our BEdA learners.

Outcome

Attending any session within this conference, participants can expect an established safe space for staff and administration within our CTC system to dialogue on the importance of mental health, self-care, and team care, deliberately.

This training is designed to include all support staff and navigators who work with students directly, regardless of positionality or placement. This professional development opportunity provides support staff with resources to promote self-awareness and persistence to fulfill our state and institution's mission, values, and goals. While the focus is centered on student support staff, all BEdA personnel are welcome to register for this conference track.

Everywhere we turn, self-care is being talked about and addressed. We have centered practices on our students, ensuring they are connected to resources that aid in maintaining positive mental health while matriculating through our programs. But what about the person who serves the students? This training seeks to normalize and engage executive administration throughout our system to consider the faculty, staff, and admin's mental health as they provide continuous support to our students. Join us as we introduce the body-brain interaction and the alert the system sends for self-care.
