College Trustees

Washington State Association of College Trustees logoWashington state's 30 community and technical college districts are governed by governor-appointed boards of trustees. The nonprofit Washington State Association of College Trustees (ACT) hosts conferences and provides opportunities for trustees to develop leadership and advocacy skills on behalf of students and colleges.

ACT's purpose is:

  • To facilitate communication among community and technical college trustees of the state of Washington;
  • To provide training and educational opportunities to trustees and to assist trustees in their policy and advocacy responsibilities;
  • To promote post-secondary education at community and technical colleges within the state of Washington;
  • To give trustees an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the community and technical college system, to hear and learn about other perspectives on issues trustees face on their local campuses, and to get the latest information on higher education trends and external factors;
  • To support development and maintenance of a state-wide community and technical college education system through liaison with the SBCTC, and other duly constituted community and technical college related organizations and agencies (e.g. WACTC); and
  • To review legislation and initiate policy discussions affecting community and technical colleges and to make appropriate recommendations to the SBCTC and to all appropriate committees thereof.
