  2. Click on the mailing list you want to join. The information page for that mailing list appears.

  3. In the optional Your name field, type your name.
  4. In the Pick a password field, type your password.
Note: If you do not create a password, Mailman will create one for you. Mailman provides several ways for you to change your password.
  5. In the Reenter password to confirm field, type your password again.
  6. At the Would you like to receive list mail batched in a daily digest? prompt, click No to receive each email as it is sent to the list (this is the default). Click Yes to receive one daily email containing all the messages from that day (not recommended).

  8. To complete the subscription process, reply to the email as instructed in the message.
Note: If you do not respond to this email within three (3) days, your request will become invalid. You can then subscribe to the list again by following the steps above.

Once you have successfully subscribed, Mailman will automatically send you an email welcoming you to the list.

  • Password: To receive a password reminder, send a message with the word "password" in the subject line to [listname]-request@lists.ctc.edu. Your password will be emailed to you.

To prevent .txt attachments, use the Plain Text option in your email application. If you do not format your email messages in Plain Text, when you receive an email from a list, it will include a small .txt attachment, for example, ATT06106.txt (377 B). The attachment displays the list's footer which includes the list's name, email address, and information page URL.

When you send an email to a list, Mailman adds a Sender header to the email. (example, [Listname]-bounces@lists.ctc.edu; on behalf of; John, Doe [jdoe@rtc.edu])

Because Microsoft Outlook reads the Sender header rather than the From header, the Mailman Sender header appears in the From field. Most email programs will display the correct information from the original poster in the From field.

SBCTC-ITD discovered that a message sent to multiple mailing lists is received only once by members using Microsoft Exchange server and MS Outlook. This is something outside SBCTC-ITD's control. At present, SBCTC-ITD does not have the ability to tune or adjust this. While this is a functionality that some members want, others are not happy with this outcome. SBCTC-ITD will continue to research this issue.
